Kathalaya is hosting Kathothsava ’06-Festival of Storytelling for the second consecutive year. The event will not only showcase different forms of storytelling but also bring together international and national storytellers, writers, film and theatre personalities to endorse this art and generate interest among the youngsters.
Objective of the Event
The young generation is deprived of the rich traditional folklores and even the art of storytelling is gradually dying. In the traditional joint families, the grandparents used t o play a dominant role in narrating tales and there was no institutionalizing this simple art form. With the changing socio-economic structure of society, children are more and more drawn towards technology, gadgets and the like for entertainment.
The main objective of Kathalaya is to popularise folklores and revive the dying art of storytelling using different forms like puppetry, masks, toy theatre, chitrakathas, origami apart from theatre and body language. So far Kathalaya has been the foremost organisation in its effort to integrate storytelling into curriculums and has re-invented storytelling finding a modern application for this ancient art.
Kathothsava ’06 will be a month-long program involving schools, school children, teachers and parents. Many film and theatre and film personalities like Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Rahul Bose, Mahesh Dattani are participating in this program.
